Community Place on Washington
In 1888, Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren built the existing red brick building on the property at 61 E. Washington St., beginning a long history of service to our community. They worshipped here until 1956, when they built their new building on South Mount Joy Street and sold the property to St. Peter's Catholic Church. St. Peter's converted the building into a Catholic School for children in kindergarten through 8th grade, known as the St. Peter’s Parochial School. Students were educated in the building until the school closed in 2012.
In 2018, United Churches Elizabethtown Area purchased the building from St. Peter's and transformed it into the social service complex it is today, continuing the legacy of service and education in the Elizabethtown area. In 2021, UCEA added the 2-story, 20,000 square foot building at 105 E. Washington St. Having a centralized social services center has been a community dream for decades. Now it is a reality.
